Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
A man on the radio said that it gave him a reason to get up in the morning
That’s something I won’t ever understand
And something he shouldn’t have to either

Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
A woman on the radio said we should remember the Stolen Generations
Generations
More families are being separated now than they were before Rudd

Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
It was only fifteen years ago
Decades of genocide, centuries of discrimination
And we apologised fifteen years ago

Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
But the Opposition Leader said Sorry yesterday
He’s fifteen years too late
Also, he’s sorry, but you look up his name and the first three articles say: The Voice Won’t Work

Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
Australia Day still exists
And every January we’re up in arms
Come Feb 1st the news has moved on

Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
The words of a Prime Minister
And those words had impact unimaginable
But now we need a Voice

Yesterday was the anniversary of The Apology
A reflection on the past
But maybe tomorrow, maybe someday soon
Will be the beginning of the future
A future connected; a future vibrant; a future not for yesterday, but for tomorrow
